UV Water Purification

Destroying 99.99% of biological contaminants at the speed of light.

The Invisible Guardian

Standard filters use a microscopic physical barrier (like a net) to catch bacteria. However, viruses are often small enough to slip through the pores of carbon and UF membranes. When you absolutely cannot risk biological contamination—such as when drinking from an untreated private well or rainwater harvesting tank—Ultraviolet (UV-C) Disinfection is required.

How UV Light Works

A UV system does not actually "filter" or remove bacteria from the water. Instead, the water passes through a stainless steel tube containing an incredibly bright UV-C quartz lamp. The invisible 254-nanometer light penetrates the cell walls of the bacteria, viruses, and cysts (like Giardia). The radiation violently scrambles and shatters their DNA.

Because their DNA is destroyed, the pathogens cannot replicate. If they cannot replicate in your stomach, they cannot make you sick. They are rendered entirely harmless.

The Pre-Filtration Requirement

The one massive flaw of UV light is "shadowing". If your water contains floating mud, rust, or sediment, a bacteria cell will simply hide behind a piece of dirt to shield itself from the UV light, surviving the chamber.

Therefore, you can NEVER install a UV lamp by itself. You must always have a 1-micron or 5-micron sediment filter installed immediately before the UV chamber to ensure the water is crystal clear, leaving no shadows for the viruses to hide in.
